This hard fork will enable EIP-4844, also known as proto-danksharding. It will lower fees on L2s by 10-100x, likely enabling sub-$0.01 transactions for the first time in Ethereum's [recent] history.

If you've never watched a live upgrade before, you're in for a treat. It's an unabashed nerd-fest. Expect a lot of developers around laptops talking technical things, and expect short talks from many people explaining different aspects of the upgrade. Maybe it'll all go wrong, ethereum will go down, and everyone will freak out! Or maybe it'll be anti-climactic and the upgrade will happen silently and smoothly.

This is a super chilled and easy event that you can log on to from home, no webcams, just typing, while we collectively witness the upgrade. You may need to create a discord account, but you can do it all in your browser. And it's at the very sociable time of 1pm (fork happens around 1:55pm)!
