- Beginner Friendly + Advanced WerewolfCaxton Arms, Brighton
Werewolf is a type of social deduction game like Blood on the Clocktower or The Spawn or the Traitors. It's a social/party game (a bit like a murder mystery), you're secretly either a villager or a wolf, and trying to figure out what everyone else is. Who's on your team, and who's not? Deduction, bluffing, and lots of feeling confused about who's who. Trying to work out what's going on whilst keeping your team from being bitten by wolves or burned at the stake by the village is what beings people back week after week. We'll be running two games simultaneously, a base game and an advanced game.
New players are very welcome! Just RSVP to let us know you are coming. If you've never played before, don't worry, we will get you started in our beginner friendly base game! We'll explain the rules, go through the roles with you and assign you a beginner buddy to play with you but we usually have several new players every week so you won't ever be alone!
Enter the pub using the entrance door on the right and we will be there straight ahead of you. We begin arriving around 6pm to set up and brief newbies on the rules. First game usually starts around 6.30pm and a second game typically kicks off between 8 - 8.30pm. If you're going to be late, please comment on here to let us know so the moderator knows to add you in to the game. If you arrive after we've started you're able to sit and watch the drama unfold.
BASE GAME RULES:
Click here to learn the rules and see the roles.
These are the rules we use for our beginner friendly base games. We'll go through these at the start of each session so don't worry about memorising all of the roles and we'll provide you with a sheet you can use during the game to refer back to when needed. The best way to learn is definitely just to play so come give it a go!ADVANCED ROLES:
HIDDEN MOTIVES RULES
DARKEST NIGHT RULES
The advanced games may draw roles from either of the above but may also contain roles the moderator ahs created themselves! Or roles other mods have made previously or even one of the spicy new scenarios the creator has made. Turn up on the day and find out what's being played that day. - Tuesday West Hove/Portslade Boardgames Meet (twice monthly)The Railway Inn, 2 Station Road, Portslade, BN41
Our twice monthly West Hove/Portslade meetup (Tuesdays) at The Railway Inn, every second and fourth tuesday of the month (from September 2025).
Whether this is all new to you, or you're a veteran of Twilight Imperium, come along, bring a game if you want, have fun. We play modern board games (not monopoly, cluedo and so on), anything from quick fillers of Love Letter and Codenames, to heavier euro games and all sorts. Please RSVP here so we have an idea of numbers.
6:30pm onwards, expect games to start around 7pm (you can arrive later, but you may have to wait for a game). Please buy some food or drink to contribute to our use of the space, and don't bring food or drink in from elsewhere. We'll be in the function room or mezzanine area (just ask at the bar).
Come join our Discord to chat about games and plan what to play: https://discord.gg/b43zV4XNjQ
The pub is close to several Brighton bus routes and Portslade train station. If you're driving, resident-only permit restrictions stop at 7pm (see zones X and L on this map).
Accessibility: There are a few steps to navigate inside the pub (no more than 8). We are usually in the back 'Platform' room, which has flat access via the side gate and ramp. Occasionally the venue may have another paid event booking, and if so we may be moved into the mezzanine, which unfortunately is not wheelchair accessible - so if you need step free access please contact an organiser. The accessible WC is located in the main bar (via the side door) which has a small ramped access in the threshold.
- Wednesday Night Pub Board GamesThe Walrus, Brighton
Boardgames and a pub, what's not to like? Come along and play some games with a friendly bunch of gamers. New faces and veterans welcome!
Key info
- Arrive after 6pm -- we start from 6pm, but you're welcome to turn up at any time after that (though you may have to wait/spectate for a bit later on).
- Bring ID -- the pub can be very keen to check ID for age, so if you're lucky enough to look under 25 in dim light, please bring some!
- Bring games if you can, all games are provided by people who attend, so if you can bring them (and share/teach) that would be much appreciated, but there will be plenty if not.
- RSVP here please, so we can gauge numbers
- Buy drinks and/or food to support the pub please, as they let us use their space for free and means we can keep this event free!
- When you arrive, say hello and we'll help you find a table to join.
Before you come, you might want to join our Discord; we use this for text chat to arrange beforehand what games to play and so on (we also play online board games there). It's also a great place for general chatter.
Click here to join our Discord.
If you'd like to play a game that needs more than one table, make sure you let us know here or on Discord, and we'll see what we can do - no guarantees!
We look forward to seeing you!
