PostgreSQL & Marten — The Swiss Army Knife of Database Development — Damian Maclennan (~1h)
The default data storage for .NET development has always been SQL Server, but Postgres is a great alternative. It’s open source, “free” (and much cheaper in a PaaS scenario), and fast. It also works great with Entity Framework so can be an almost drop-in replacement for your RDBMS needs.
Add the Marten .NET library and you have an incredibly fast and efficient document database which can absolutely turbocharge your development experience.
This talk will be a technical walkthrough of Marten, how it works, how to use it in your .NET apps, and how to mix and match Marten’s document storage with Postgres’s other features to have a full database toolkit. We’ll also cover some real world gotchas, patterns, and pitfalls learned from production deployments.

Damian is an experienced software architect, developer, trainer, and agile engineering consultant.In his 20-year career he has designed software architecture for companies of all sizes, been a CTO for early-stage startups, developed and run high profile and high traffic websites, as well as mentored and trained hundreds of developers.
Throughout this time, he has developed deep expertise on the architectural patterns, engineering techniques, and team dynamics needed to make successful software.
