Coders Handbook: How to walk code โ€” Sam Wagner (SSW) ~45m

As a developer, especially one starting out in the industry, it can be tough to come onto a new project and just to be expected to โ€œfigure it outโ€. There are many processes and team behaviors that are usually in place to protect a new developer from that kind of experience but at some point itโ€™s just time to roll up those sleeves and walk through the code. This talk is designed to give you a simple mental framework for doing so effectively on two notable axis.

  1. You should be able to walk away from your screen, context switch, or otherwise be interrupted and not have to restart the process.
  2. You should leave this process with not only a mental mapping of a portion of the code base youโ€™re looking at but a way to communicate that model with the people who you need help from more effectively.

Quickstart: Offline Home Automation prototype with Blazor and LLM for fun โ€” Jernej Kavka [JK] (SSW) ~30m

Ever wanted to build an AI solution but worried that you won't have access to the Internet or concerned about the data that might get leaked into the web?

What if we could wield the power of ChatGPT, Llama, Google Gemma or Phi-3 locally?

Join me in building a quick prototype for managing virtual devices with help of SLMs (Small Language Models) without breaking your bank.

About JK:

JK is a Microsoft AI MVP, SSW Solution Architect, and organiser of several user groups like AI Hack Days and Global AI The Podcast. JK is a full-stack .NET developer, but his passion lies in Azure Cognitive Services, AI and machine learning. He is the main architect behind SSW's virtual receptionist - SophieAI: https://sswsophie.com

He is also very active in the developer community and enjoys speaking at conferences like NDC, DDD, as well as User Groups and Hack Days.
