As an internationally recognised clairvoyant and influential voice within the Theosophical Society, Geoffrey Hodson left a remarkable legacy, including surviving recordings of his lectures exploring a wide range of Theosophical subjects. In this lecture, we draw inspiration from the echoes of this great Theosophist as we explore the profound and formative experiences of his life, from the front lines of World War I to his final public lecture at the age of 96.

Thomas attended his first lecture on Theosophy at the Launceston Theosophical Society in 1995, promptly falling asleep under a chair after enjoying the biscuits on offer, and now, at 36, is a secondary school teacher and engaged student of Theosophy. Two years ago, he took custody of a large collection of cassette tapes containing hundreds of hours of Geoffrey Hodson’s lectures and has since been digitising them, finding their wisdom a significant source of inspiration and support in understanding and integrating Theosophical teachings into his daily life.

Explore the sacred language that shapes the Ancient Wisdom tradition.

• Sanskrit is still often considered one of the most sacred languages in the world. Much of what the Society calls the ‘Ancient Wisdom’ originally appeared in Sanskrit. Some Sanskrit words are used in English theosophical literature because no English word can do justice to their meanings in Sanskrit.

• This workshop will explore the ways in which prominent theosophists used Sanskrit in their writings. Beginning with some words that are commonly used, we shall discuss their meanings and pronunciation.

• Participants are encouraged to bring along passages or books about which they have questions for discussion in the workshop.

• Please join us for this unique opportunity to delve into the mystery and magic of this revered language.

Adam Bowles is an Associate Professor in the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry at the University of Queensland. He has worked on Sanskrit Literature for a number of decades, and is currently involved in translating the thirteenth book of the Mahabharata.

When we look around us and observe the vastness of creation it is possible to be overwhelmed by its complexity and the apparent mystery of its existence. Yet within creation lies some of the greatest truths that reveal the universal laws governing all life. Drawing on theosophical insights and inspired by the revelations of the Ancient Wisdom, this lecture will strive to highlight the true magic of transformation at the heart of the universe. In so doing, together we may help to uncover that which veils the one existence in all things leading to peace and contentment.

Gerard Brennan is a teacher of English Literature and has a Master of Education degree from the University of Sydney. He has been a member of the Theosophical Society for over 25 years. Gerard has served on the Blavatsky Lodge Executive Committee, the National Council in Australia and attended many international conventions at Adyar.

James Yuan is a Young Theosophist whose search to understand his spiritual awakening and experiences of Christ consciousness led him to join the Theosophical Society. Passionate about comparative mythology, philosophy and the world's spiritual traditions, he seeks to embody spirituality in daily life through kindness, joy, service and the pursuit of truth.
