[weston super mare] sea buckthorn harvest and cafe

Details

Sea buckthorn leaves, flowers, seeds and fruits are all used as medicine! The bush (in the Olive family) contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, and C, as well as Omega 3s, super healthy and very hard to harvest so we will try this together and work out the best and most ethical way.

Open to all, as always, whatever your experience of foraging so far, this is a community for people who want to meet in nature together, make new friends and learn new things.

What to expect:
3pm: meet (bring lunch or buy lunch) at The Boathouse (< click for link). Address: Uphill Wharf, Uphill, Weston-super-Mare BS23 4XR
4pm: walk to beach where Sea Buckthorn bushes are and to start harvest, share recipes and ways to use
6pm-ish: head back to Boathouse / train station / Bristol

What to bring:
- everything you'd need for a windy beach walk like tupperware (or bag-for-life), water, a notepad, comfy clothes and sturdy shoes, packed lunch if you don't want to buy from cafe

Travel:
Public transport: the 1.55pm train from Bristol Temple Meads (towards Exeter St Davids) arrives in Weston at 2.22pm. It is then a 45min walk or you can get the no. 20 bus at Weston-super-Mare Station (Stop Y, 8 stops) arriving at Laurel Drive, then it's 9min walk from here. Check online for any train time changes!
Driving: the postcode for the meeting point at The Boathouse is BS23 4XR - there is parking at Uphill Car Park (as far as I can see, it is free)

Any questions about this, let me know!

Accessibility: we will be on cliff edges and sandy paths which will be hard for wheelchairs, get to for paths at the start and will move through the wood chip driveway to get to Bridge Farm, there is a small step to get into the barn at Bridge Farm. Please get in touch if you are unsure and we can adjust.

Safety and community care: to keep everyone safe, please do not attend if you are actively infectious with a cold, cough or other illness. Bristol Foraging Group is a neurodivergent, trans-inclusive, LGBTQIA+ friendly space in nature, all are welcome.

If you aren't able to cover the cost, let us know , we have bursary spaces available for you, especially for trans and global majority foragers, no questions asked!

Refunds: Swaps preferred over refunds - if you can't make it on the day, you're welcome to exchange your space for another date you can attend in future, just get in touch to swap over.
