Relaxed Memorial Weekend Ride—Wash Park to Confluence Starbucks/REI and back

Details

Join Brompton—Denver for our inaugural Meetup ride! Taking advantage of the long Memorial Day weekend and gorgeous Colorado spring weather, we’ll be riding a chill out and back from Washington Park in SE Denver up to Confluence Park in downtown Denver. *Open to people of all skills levels, riding any bike, who can maintain a leisurely ~10-12mph pace.*

We’ll be cruising through Denver’s lovely Wash Park and along the Cherry Creek Bike Path up to Confluence Park, where we’ll stop to enjoy the scenery/view, grab a cuppa/snack at Starbucks, and/or pop in at REI’s largest sale of the year (May 16-26, 2025) at Denver's flagship store! We do anticipate crowds, so we’ll likely be riding single file much of the time and socializing mainly at Confluence (midway) & Wash Park (beginning/end).

Route description: Fully paved bike lanes/paths (often shared with pedestrians) through southeast and downtown Denver with minimal elevation change (there are some short minimal hills in Wash Park, short entry/exist ramps for the Cherry Creek Bike Path, a gradual westward slope along the Cherry Creek Bike Path)
Ride level: Chill / Relaxed
Pace: ~10-12mph
Distance: ~11miles
Duration, breaks: This route takes approximately one hour to complete non-stop; this event is scheduled for 2 hours to allow time to socialize and shop at the Starbucks and REI at Confluence Park
Depature Time(s): At 9:00am we’ll do a brief round of intros and cover some ride-out basics before departing. For the return trip (Confluence to Wash Park), we’ll depart sometime between 10:15-10:30am, TBD. Onsite check-in / waiver, helmet, and brake check are required for every rider.

Everyone is welcome and no one will be left behind.

  • How do I (and my friends/family) sign up to participate? RSVP to this MeetUp event, or sign a waiver by smartphone at the event.
  • What should I bring to the event? A clean and safely operable bike, your noggin armor, preferably a basic repair kit (tire levers, tubes, pump), bike lock + funds to cover your purchases at Starbucks/REI, anything else you personally may need, and an open and positive attitude!
  • What if it rains (or something else)? Event organizers will monitor and post a message to this event’s chat if the event needs to be modified, rescheduled, or cancelled.
  • What are transit options, and what’s the parking situation like? Wash Park is near major RTD transit stops, is easy to access from I-25, and is surrounded by free parking throughout the neighborhood and at South High School, which is adjacent to Wash Park to the south. (Remember to pin your car / stop location, if you need to!)
  • Where can I take a bio break? There are public restrooms adjacent to the Tennis Courts just to the west of where we’ll meet, and there are public restrooms available at the midway turnaround point of this ride.
