Details

Regardless of if you call it the "Rockaway Loop", "Jamaica Bay Loop" or the "Vu Loop", this route is known and loved by many! Now you'll get a chance to love it (and learn why we call it the "Vu Loop") too!

This route has hills, and offers diverse landscapes, from urban paths to waterfront trails and even the historical runways of Floyd Bennett Field! Our loop will even contain a mini-loop, going around the edge of Shirley Chisholm State Park - offering stunning views over the water.
At (almost) the end of the loop, we'll stop for a late lunch at the Riis Beach Bar & Concessions. At this point, you're welcome to stay and eat and hang out (we'll probably stay here for about 1 - 1.5 hours), or, if you need to head out early, it's only 2.5 miles back to the train (or 3.3 miles to the ferry if you prefer!)

Ride level:

  • Pace: 10 mph avg
  • Distance: Intermediate at 22 miles - with hills
  • There will be a few stops along the way. No one will be left behind.
  • NOTE - the food stop will be at the end of this ride. Bring enough water & snacks with you as there are no places to get food along the way.

Meeting:
We will meet at 10:30 am, and wheels roll at 11:00.
Meet at Tribute Park, a park on the north shore, at the end of Beach 116 Street.

Route GPS link
We will do a counter-clockwise loop, starting by heading East down the boardwalk, turn North and cross the Broad Channel, then take the Jamaica Bay Greenway all the way to the Marine Parkway Bridge. At this point we'll stop to eat a late lunch at Riis Beach Bar & Concessions (food vendor information link below). From here, it's a short 2.5 miles back to the train (or 3.3 miles to the ferry if you prefer!)
