Brompton Ride to Tarrytown Lakes with Kayaking!
Details
Let's ride the Empire State Trail from Van Cortlandt Park to Tarrytown Lakes for kayaking! Check out photos from past Tarrytown rides below!
As with previous Tarrytown rides, we'll meet in Van Cortlandt Park and ride the Empire State Trail to the Tarrytown turnoff. However, unlike previous years we are skipping the Tarrytown hill. That's right, this year we'll stop at the Tarrytown Lakes reservoir for kayaking and fun-in-the sun, and then ride back.
Please note that this event has a $29 fee for kayak rental. After you sign up, we will send you information on how to pay via Zelle, paypal or Venmo. (If you cancel, the rental fee is refundable as long as someone from the waiting list takes your spot.)
Meeting Point
Meet at the bottom of the park side of the stairs of the "Van Cortlandt Park-242 St Station" (last stop on the "1" line).
The Bike Route
You can see the portion of the trail we'll ride on the Empire State Trail Map. On the map, it's basically from the (3) to the (4).
We're meeting at Van Cortlandt Park and biking up the trail to the Tarrytown turnoff. We'll stop at Tarrytown Lakes and kayak for 1.5 hours, then ride back to Van Cortlandt Park. Shortly before the end of the ride, there's a friendly Italian restaurant with a huge outdoor terrace - we plan to stop there for a victory beer (plus pizza, sangria and more).
Kayaking
We will be renting "Sit-on-Top" Kayaks from Tarrytown Lakes that are beginner-friendly for first-time kayakers.
Lunch and Snacks
Please bring a picnic lunch to eat at Tarrytown Lakes
Near the end of the ride we'll stop for victory drinks
