Permaculture Forest Gardens On Public Land
Hear about how our
Permaculture Land Trust, along with the NY state agency, the DEC
planting over 150 trees, along a denuded stretch of stream that badly needed some beauty and diversity shading her waters.
This Permaculture Food Forest was created in collaboration with our state and local agencies.
DEC provided 150 trees that we , Permaculture Land Trust, with the Town of Wawarsing and the DEC collaborated on, to make happen, along the banks of the Sandburg Creek.
Protected under DEC easements in the Rondout Watershed
Andrew Faust of the Permaculture Land Trust with volunteers, and the DEC planted, on 10/17 this fall, over 150 curated native trees and shrubs in Bob Mangles Park along the ,bare, mowed bank sides of the Sandburg Creek a place in need of some love.

The Wawarsing Watershed Educational Park will provide a legacy planting of diverse native trees and historically valuable and productive trees and berries, planted in the Riparian zone and floodplain of the confluence of the Sandburg Creek, the Beer Kill, and the Fantine Kill .
We planted Forest garden and create an educational park informed by the Permaculture model that blends well and improves the local ecology (called a Forest Garden); including selected varieties of regionally appropriate and valuable nut trees,Garden Sate Hickory and Dr. Sandy Chestnut with wild fruits, berries, fuelwood, and lumber trees; while providing improved water quality in the streams, providing pollinator habitat, and preventing bankside erosion and throughout the proposed planting areas.
