Docker, Whisper, and the Legislature: Full-Stack Civic Tech on Homelab Hardware
Details
Chuck Anderson is taking his HomeLab AI to the State Legislature with IdaLogBot. It’s a full-stack civic data platform that doesn't editorialize, it just scrapes the data from official sources, stores structured voting records, and surfaces them in a rich React app - bills, officials, committees, vote comparisons, live scraper logs. Started with local data, designed for multi-jurisdiction scale.
The operating stack: TypeScript, Node/Express, React, MySQL, Redis, Docker, plus GPU Whisper for meeting video. Built on local hardware (dev machine + production host + NAS).
Come for live 2026 data demos, stay for the scraper war stories, and laugh at the “config as code” architecture lessons.
BONUS: Jim McKeeth will do a quick demo and overview of the new programming learning platform's he's working on.
