This class
In a one-hour restorative class we will do about five postures with the body completely supported on cushions, blankets and blocks, the perfect way to end the week and prepare to flow into weekend mode.
Restorative yoga enables us to regulate the nervous system resulting in a state of calm on all levels. During the practice the body rests, allowing the mind and body to slip into a state of deep stillness and peace.
Please have some cushions, pillows and blankets close by. You will learn how to use them in the class. You can use books instead of blocks, a scarf for an eye pillow, duvets as bolsters and create your own little nest to settle into.
The calmness of the practice enables us to experience the inner landscape and develop an understanding of how to nourish ourselves. Many of us live our lives in a state of low-level tension. This can become so familiar that we no longer notice the stress and learn to adapt to it. The more you practise restorative yoga the more quickly you will learn to recognise and release underlying discomfort.
During the practice you may drift between being asleep and awake and enter a deeply healing state known as the hypnagogic state in which long-held dis-ease can be assimilated.
About Luci
London-based yoga teacher and Thai body-worker Luci has been teaching Vinyasa Flow and Restorative Yoga since 2010 and leading 200 and 300-hr yoga teacher trainings since 2015.
Her introduction to yoga was at a local Sivananda class in the late 90’s, this whetted her appetite for working with prana and the subtle body as well as the importance of movement, breath and diet. She moved on to the Iyengar Institute in Maida Vale where she loved the precision of alignment; both mental and physical and this influences her teaching to this day. When she experienced Ashtanga Vinyasa with Radha and Pierre in Crete she was hooked and visited them annually for two decades as well as practising in London with Rachel Barlow and in India with various teachers.
Her passion for the ancient teachings of yoga mean that her philosophy classes bring these practices to life. She is particularly passionate about the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and their relevance to our day-to-day lives. With guidance on her 300-hr, teacher training with The Himalayan Institute in India in 2018, studying online with Eddie Stern during lockdown and weekly chanting sessions with Ganga Devi, she has started learning Sanskrit and deepening her understanding through the rhythm and sound of the chant.
