Oeshiki (御会式) – Memorial of Nichiren Shōnin
Oeshiki is the annual memorial service for Nichiren Shōnin, the founder of our tradition, who entered into Parinirvana on October 13, 1282. At Kōsen-ji, we gather to honor his life and vow to continue his mission of sharing the Lotus Sutra in our own time.
The service includes chanting of the Lotus Sutra and the Odaimoku (南無妙法蓮華経), offerings of light and flowers, and a Dharma message reflecting on Nichiren’s legacy. This is one of the most important observances of the year, when we remember the courage, compassion, and insight of Nichiren Shōnin, and rededicate ourselves to living out the Dharma in community.
All are welcome to join us for this beautiful and moving ceremony of gratitude and renewal. We will have refreshments after service, feel free to join us afterwards!
