Based on the first teaching the Buddha gave in India after he gained enlightenment, this evening talk addresses why we face so many problems in life. When the root causes of problems are identified, the means to overcome problems is more likely achieved.

The Buddha was once an ordinary human being who like us faced every challenge, difficulties and problems in life. Although he was born as a prince with all the luxuries of his time, he lacked a sense of truly feeling content and happy. When he saw the sufferings of the world and realised he was subjected to experiencing them as well, he pursued a goal to end all suffering and find the means to lasting happiness.

After many years of studying and mediation practices he attained the state of enlightenment. He discovered that every human being has the same potential to end all suffering and reach the ultimate state of happiness as well. Moved by unconditional love and compassion for all living beings, he gave his first teaching, known to this day as the Four Noble Truths.
