May 31st is Saka Dawa Duchen, the full moon of the fourth Tibetan lunar month and one of the most significant days in the Buddhist calendar, marking the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana. Tibetan Buddhist teachings hold that the effects of actions performed on this day are greatly multiplied.

Gen Don Handrick will lead a guided practice on a short Chenrezig sadhana as part of the FPMT Global Mani Retreat, a worldwide accumulation of the six-syllable mantra Om Mani Padme Hum running from May 17th through November 1st, 2026. The retreat was conceived to fulfill one of Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s long-held aspirations for the FPMT organization, and the accumulated mantras will be offered to His Holiness the Dalai Lama upon its conclusion.

Participants of any level are welcome. The practice is a natural entry point for those who wish to recite the Mani mantra daily throughout the global retreat period. Please join us on this special day to add your recitations to the global accumulation.
