Mystical Arts Tour: Sand Mandala Construction and Viewing
Details
The Buddhist Center welcomes monks from the Mystical Arts Tour as they create a sand mandala of Green Tara — a centuries-old Tibetan Buddhist art form in which millions of grains of colored sand are placed with painstaking precision to form an intricate geometric image of a deity’s enlightened realm. The completed mandala is then ceremonially dismantled, its sands released into flowing water as a teaching on impermanence.
The public is welcome to come during construction hours to observe the monks at work. Each visit offers something different — the mandala grows day by day, and the atmosphere of quiet concentration in the shrine room is itself worth the trip.
All are welcome. No prior experience with Buddhism is necessary.
