Molecular Biotechnology Bootcamp for Ages 12-17!
Baltimore Under Ground Science Space, 101 N Haven St #105, Baltimore, MD, USThe course is hands-on project based so you will use the techniques discussed in class in order to purify genomic DNA, isolate a specific gene from that genomic DNA, clone that gene, and make the protein that gene encodes. Additional support will be given with online materials that include videos and links to expand on knowledge and understanding. Although we will be immersing ourselves right into the hands-on work there will be explanations of the techniques and concepts behind the biology of these techniques during class so prepare yourself some fun whirlwind learning!
Scholarships are available, please email us at info@bugssonline.org to request one!
The course will take place from 12-5 pm from Monday June 22nd to Friday June 26th with new material each day. Your ticket covers all 5 days!

Join us for a fun and interactive class where you'll dive into the world of bacterial transformation! We'll explore how scientists can "reprogram" bacteria by giving them new DNA instructions. This process allows bacteria to do amazing things, like producing chemicals, pharmaceuticals, fragrances, and pigments!

Gene Editing with CRISPR (Adult course for ages 12+)
Baltimore Under Ground Science Space, 101 N Haven St #105, Baltimore, MD, USCRISPR/Cas9 technology has revolutionized science since its first published use in non-bacterial cells in 2013. Winning the 2020 Nobel Prize in chemistry, CRISPR is a versatile tool that can be used in countless ways to further discovery including: inactivating mutant disease-causing genes, activating protein pathways, labeling proteins or cells, or for cancer therapy. This course will cover the molecular mechanisms of how the CRISPR/Cas9 system works, discuss current and future applications of the technology, and give hands-on experience in implementing CRISPR technology in the lab.
When: Saturday, July 11 AND July 18 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM each day
Where: Baltimore UnderGround Science Space (BUGSS)
101 N Haven St, Baltimore, MD 21224Fee: $55.20 This fee covers both days. Feel free to reach out to us at info@bugssonline.org if a scholarship would enable you to attend.
