BUGSS is a non-profit public laboratory that provides lab access so that anyone can safely and affordably investigate the living world. We offer classes, seminars, and group projects to help all those interested to learn about the latest and greatest in science.

Science Slam!
Bird in Hand, 11 East 33rd Street, Baltimore, MD, USBaltimore! It’s Science Slam time!
When else can you learn about the remarkable science that is going on in Charm City? Come join us for an afternoon of 5 min science talks from local scientists and support their efforts to communicate their work!
BUGSS will host 6 or so local scientists (grad students, postdocs, citizen scientists, etc) to present their work in 5 minutes. We give prizes to the talks that are most creative and best communicated! This is a great way to connect with others, learn diverse topics of science going on right here in Charm City, gain communication skills and experience, enhance chances of collaboration and emerging projects and ideas.Want to share your science? For ages 9-14 and friends/family: Algae Accessories
Baltimore Under Ground Science Space, 101 N Haven St #105, Baltimore, MD, USJoin us to create cool, eco-friendly accessories using algae string!
Join us in person for a super fun and creative workshop where you'll learn how to make better plastic using cool and eco-friendly algae string. Then we'll use that string to make accessories-bracelets, key chains, or whatever is meaningful to you!
This class is part of a research study funded by the National Science Foundation (Award #: 2415876) that seeks to understand the learning affordances and constraints of doing hands-on, modern life science in informal learning environments. We are hoping to have middle school students attend with at least one friend or family member! So, please buy a ticket for each participant. Parents/guardians will be asked to complete a research consent form that will come to you separately by email. Participants who complete the research forms and participate in the class will receive a $20 gift card.
