Duke Forest choose your own distance community run!
Details
Hi there, have you ever wanted to run in Duke forest while people cook and cheer for you in a low stakes community led event that we lovingly refer to as a 'fat-ass' event?
If so, look no more! For this race-vent, we'll have distances ranging from:
- Under 9 Miles: MAP TBD
- Between, 9 to 15 miles: MAP TBD
- 20 miles, to the grand distance of 50k!: MAP TBD
To help us organize who is doing what distance and what time that wave starts here's a spreadsheet link: LINK
Routes will be provided via strava, we'll be cooking (drinks are allowed at the Pavilion) and best of all, it's free! So come out and have a great time!
What is a fat ass run you might ask? It is an informal, low-key, no frills and usually free ultramarathon or trail run. Another common theme with a fat ass event - a big post-run social with lots of food courtesy of everyone bringing something pot luck style.
The Rigsbee shelter has electricity and grills, so we'll have a cookout for lunch. To improve the odds of everyone being together for the cookout, we have staggered starting times.
While this isn't the mountains, you will definitely notice the hills, including Couch Mountain.
The course is over 90% smooth trail. Food and water will only be available at the shelter, so bring whatever you need for the longer laps.
