Paint & Sip - Día de los Muertos - Wingspan Studio

This special paint party unfolds in the spirit of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. This is not a Mexican version of Halloween, Though related, the two events differ in traditions and tone. Day of the Dead festivities unfold over two days – November 1 and 2, the same as All Souls Day in Christianity – in an explosion of color, reverence and joy. The celebration centers around respect for deceased loved ones. Throughout Mexico, revelers wear makeup and costumes, hold parades and parties, sing and dance, and make offerings.

We will celebrate and you will complete a painting inspired by this stunning work of Zoltán Palugyay, Landscape with Flowers (Nirvana). Learn a bit about this artist, a pillar of Slovakia's modern art and how his symbolism echoes that of Día de los Muertos. Costumes encouraged, open to all, materials and instruction provided. Pre-registration required.

What to expect: Arrive between 6-6:15, mingle, grab a spot and be ready to paint about 6:30 pm. Group instruction with step-by-step tips and personalized input from professional artist and educator, Maggie Standley. Everyone's work of art will reflect their own style and color choices. No previous experience required!

You will be provided a smock to use/or bring your own, a palette of acrylic paints, brushes, water, a stretched canvas and instruction. This celebratory and special event takes place at Wingspan Studio, a real working studio with a soulful vibe itself. So grab a friend and sign up today!
