About us
Welcome to the Bury Me In Books Edinburgh Book Club! 📚✨
Are you passionate about diving into captivating stories, exploring new worlds, and discussing the depths of character development over a cup of coffee or a pint? Then this is the group for you!
Each month, we'll open up selection on instagram for the monthly book from a selection of fiction books. From timeless classics to contemporary bestsellers, our bookshelf knows no bounds! 📖💬
Just a few group rules:
- Attendance: Going forward, we’ll be introducing a 3-strike policy. If you don’t attend an event or don’t give at least 24 hours’ notice on 3 occasions, we may need to remove you from the group. I really don’t want to do this, but it’s important to be mindful of the tables we book and those on the waiting list when deciding whether to attend.
- Sharing the Conversation: We want to make sure everyone has a chance to share their thoughts on the book, so please try not to dominate the conversation. If you speak over others, it can limit the opportunity for everyone to chime in!
- WhatsApp Chat: Let's try to keep the chat focused on the book club—updates, discussions, and event details. It’s not ideal for personal messages or promoting other groups, as it can get cluttered for those who just want book-related info.
- Respect & Welcoming Atmosphere: Above all, let’s be respectful and kind to one another, and make sure all attendees feel welcome at events. A friendly and inclusive vibe is what makes this group special!

100 Best Books Book Club - 1984 - George Orwell
Milnes Bar, 35 Hanover Street, Edinburgh, GB1984 - George Orwell
It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.
The year is 1984, and life in Oceania is ruled by the Party. Under the gaze of Big Brother, Winston Smith yearns for intimacy and love - "thought crimes" that, if uncovered, would mean imprisonment, or death. But Winston is not alone in his defiance, and an illicit affair will draw him into the mysterious Brotherhood and the realities of resistance.
Nineteen Eighty-Four has been described as chilling, absorbing, satirical, momentous, prophetic and terrifying. It is all these things, and more.
