More info
In the past, we've had homebrew, demakes, ten player bomberman on the Saturn, and even weird things like a Virtual Boy running on a glasses-free holographic display.
Our carefully curated exhibits are different each event. (photos below are from previous events)
Do I have to be there exactly at the starting time?
Nope! Feel free to come late or come and go as needed. This 4-hour time window is somewhat experimental, a way to be more flexible for people's schedules
What hardware/games will be setup that I can play?
Check our twitter (or Mastodon) close to the date for information on which hardware and games will be on the floor, it all depends on Seth's laziness as well as what hardware is currently working.
Beware of Google maps being wrong!
There are two addresses in Kyoto with our address (different postal code), so if you type the address into Google/etc make sure it's the one that's a few blocks from Gojo station. To avoid problems, search for "C2 Kyoto" instead - or click the map on this page, or visit www.c2kyoto.com which has a map as well.
Can I bring my own food/drink?
No, sorry. Please don't bring in outside food or drink. There will be a menu with beer & wine as well as healthy non-alcoholic options. All sales support this event.
(note: currently we're only able to accept cash payments)
Notes and misc:
Code of conduct: Be nice! If you have any questions or problems find Seth or Akiko.
Allergy warning: We have a friendly cavalier named Ten-chan.
Bicycle parking available. (just park 'em anywhere on the driveway in front of our building) No parking for cars, but there are many pay parking lots nearby.
Non-smoking.
Chatting on the street: Please be considerate of noise levels if outside, for our neighbors’ sake. Better to chat inside the building than out on the street. (We've never had complaints, but want to keep it that way!)
Photo Policy: Please respect everyone's privacy by refraining from publicly posting unblurred photos of attendee faces without their permission. Some individuals prefer not to have their faces scanned by bots and AI, as it can disclose their whereabouts on specific dates, which can be a bit on the creepy side.

Kyoto Riichi Mahjong *No gambling🐶🐶💕
C2 Kyoto, 京都府, 333番 Kagiyachō, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, Kyoto, JP- The game starts at 7:00PM (doors open around 6:30PM).
- Please arrive on time so other players don’t have to wait.
- Please avoid cancelling right before the event, as it makes it difficult for people on the waiting list to join in time.
- No gambling or smoking.< For new participants >
Most of our regular members play at a steady pace.
To keep the game enjoyable for everyone, we ask that new players have already played Japanese Riichi Mahjong online (e.g., Mahjong Soul, Riichi City, Tenhou, etc.) enough to understand the basic yaku and the flow of play.
You don't need to know how to calculate the points at all! We’re happy to help with that during the game :)Before the event, I will send first-time participants a direct message (DM) on meetup.com to confirm attendance and experience level. If I don’t receive a reply, you may be asked to observe the first session.
Why am I doing this event? Because I’m addicted to playing Riichi Mahjong at a real table and want to share that fun with others!
Let’s enjoy chatting, drinking, and playing together in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. This is the BEST YouTube channel to learn to play Riichi Mahjong on a real table:
https://www.youtube.com/@LightGrunty/playlistsFee : Free. Drink order appreciated (all sales support the event).
No outside food or drinks, please.
We also have a cute dog at the venue :)< Note for advanced Japanese mahjong players >
This event is designed to welcome people who may not be fluent in Japanese or who feel hesitant about visiting a traditional mahjong parlor (雀荘). We prioritize participation for such individuals to make it more accessible.
We hope you understand the purpose of this event and appreciate your cooperation.13 attendees
