Bridging Obj-C & Swift with Nikita Lutsenko of Facebook Parse Team

Details
Join us as we relaunch the meetup on a more regular basis. We plan to have a meetup once a month moving forward, starting Tuesday, December 8th.
Space is limited to 40 people, so please RSVP only if you are sure you can attend and keep your RSVP status updated. Please cancel if you find out you cannot make it after all.
Hands-on Coding (45 mins - 6 pm to 6:45 pm):
For this first meeting, we'll just be stepping through the Swift Tour section of the Apple Swift Book. This will get our hands dirty with Playgrounds and be a great starting point for those who are just jumping into the Swift waters.
Also, near the end of the session, we'll be discussing what the goals of the hands-on coding section of the meetups will be going forward. We'll ask for audience input on the type of app we want to build, how quickly we want to build it and which curriculum we'd like to use. Therefore, if you've already done the Swift Tour in the book, but would like to voice an opinion on the direction, come by at around 6:30 pm.
Pizza Break/Networking (30 mins - 6:45 pm to 7:15 pm):
After the training and before the speaker, come join us for a great networking opportunity. We'll have pizza and drinks to provide an opportunity to socialize. It is an important part of a meetup to socialize to find biz partners, new jobs or new employees. We wish to facilitate that with every meeting.
We'll have general announcements for the first few minutes. This will allow those looking for work to announce availability, those looking for coders to announce openings and startup non-techy founders to find potential techy partners. After that, the meetup organizers will patrol the floor and make sure any and all wallflowers get introduced and integrated into a discussion group. We here to "meetup" not just "standup". =)
Expert Speaker talk (45 mins - 7:15 pm to 8 pm):
Nikita Lutsenko: Bridging Objective-C and Swift: 5 Things to Watch For
Simply put, in my talk, I'll cover how to take a Objective-C framework (Facebook's POP), use it in Swift and improve it to be compelling in Swift. In addition to slides, I'll be showing working code from a demo application to demonstrate the 5 things in a real life setting. No experience with POP is required in order to gain benefits from this talk. Concepts learned will be applicable to any Objective-C framework usage with Swift.
Nikita works at Facebook on Parse, and has been building apps for iOS and OSX for over 5 years. He has a B.S. in Economic Cybernetics (MIS) and has an interest in making developers more productive, robust UX and text readability.
