Mesos 1.2 and Universal Container Runtime

The Apache Mesos community is proud to announce that Mesos 1.2 has been released!

In this talk, Gilbert will introduce the new features and improvements in the Mesos 1.2 release. More than 200 other bug fixes and improvements made it into this release. You can see the full list of upgrades in the Apache Mesos CHANGELOG (https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf?p=mesos.git;a=blob_plain;f=CHANGELOG;hb=1.2.0).

Gilbert will then discuss improvements to the Universal Container Runtime. This feature was introduced in the Mesos 0.28 release in February 2016. In the past year, a lot of improvements have been added to make it production ready such as experimental support for auto backend, rlimit, and ‘basic’ auth docker private registry.

Gilbert will introduce Mesos Universal Container Runtime from scratch. It will include:

• What is Universal Container Runtime?

• Why should I use Universal Container Runtime?

• Highlight features of Universal Container Runtime.

Finally, Gilbert will discuss upcoming work on Mesos Containerization.

Gilbert Song is a Distributed Systems Engineer at Mesosphere working on the Mesos Core Team. Gilbert has been contributing to Mesos since 2015 and mainly concentrates on Mesos Universal Container Runtime. He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from University of California, Santa Barbara.

Microservice monitoring and quality management for modern apps and infrastructures

Instana is the next generation Application Performance Management solution, designed for modern infrastructures and apps. By continuously discovering your technology stack from code to container, we deliver full-stack visibility with 3 second automatic root cause analysis of any issue affecting your infrastructure or services. DC/OS users who install the Instana package will benefit from a correlated understanding of how the containers in their cluster impact each other as they interact through the layers of their infrastructure stack, and how well the microservices that make up their application are operating.

The meetup will focus on deep technical discussion and demo showcasing how to monitor a DC/OS cluster:

• Deployment - How to install and configure the Instana package in a DC/OS cluster

• Discovery - How Instana will automatically start monitoring a DC/OS cluster and what is running on it. This includes docker containerized and non-containerized process.

• Modeling - All discovered components of the DC/OS cluster will be modeled to understand dependencies across microservices, containers and other critical components.

• Historical Analysis - Analyze the previous configurations before new code rollouts or changes were made to pinpoint the root cause of a disruption

• Change Tracking - How Instana tracks changes of configurations, if new components are added or removed as well as it alerts if components experience issues.

• Monitoring and QoS management - Monitoring of services running “inside” and “outside” of Docker containers, including end user monitoring

• Distributed Tracing - Dive into how Instana delivers distributed tracing for Java, Scala, PHP, Node.js, Ruby and Go.

• Correlation - How Instana can correlate data and service structure to enable root cause analysis
