Barony of Caerthe Outdoor Archery Practice

Details

Archery in the SCA is an activity that is open to participants of all ages. This is an SCA archery practice activity.

SCA archers use methods and materials available to period archers. This includes a focus on natural materials like wood and feathers in our bows and arrows. Archers use recurves, longbows, and crossbows. Certain types of modern equipment like compound bows, and accessories like stabilizers and sights are not allowed in our archery activities to keep the playing field more level and medieval.

We shoot traditional archery “bullseye” targets to score points. SCA archery competitions or fun shoots are often designed to mimic situations faced by medieval archers. This might include shooting at painted targets of charging warriors, or shoots where archers must hit targets representing the small slotted windows on a fortress.

We have marshals present to inspect equipment, run the range, and ensure that everyone participates safely.

Loaner equipment is available for newcomers. Medieval clothing is not required for this activity.

This range is an outdoor range. Cost is $3.
