Draw the internet: OSI edition!

Details

Thanks to everyone, Draw the internet parts 1 and 2 were really fun. Now we want to do the same but for the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model!

What is it? Imagine you send a selfie to your bestie. The model is a series of steps that chops your image into tiny little itty-bitty bits and pumps them across the internet.

Important note

You don't need to know anything about the OSI model or the internet to join. I can tell you a bit about it. If we don't know something, we'll look it up. 😊

Description

I'm so bored with diagrams in books about internet networking and protocols! They're all like little boxes and arrows pointing to other boxes and stiff little computers and what is that thing that's a circle with an X in it? That's a server? What the hell? WHAT.

In this session we learn about a very small part of the very big internet — the OSI model — and make art with it!

What if we draw the OSI model like Dante or Chinese mythology's many layers of hell? What if we write a ballad about it as an architectural onion cascading to towards the clouds? What if we turned it into a series of origami boxes?

Whatever it is, surely we can imagine it into all kinds of different things.
Let's draw!

You can also perform if you like. Or make music. Or whatever. Internetworking is rich with narrative promise. Have fun with it!

Why

Fun way to learn about t3h w3bz under the hood?

Materials

I have dry erase sheets to put on the wall and 5 markers in gross standard office colours.

Bring your own paint and clay and wine and cake or whatever if you like.

Location

I've picked Brålunden in Bromma but it doesn't have to be there. If you want somewhere more central, feel free to suggest it.

Date can also be changed if people want. I don't know if it's too close to sommar holidays.
