University of Calgary Olympic Oval , Olympic Oval 2500 University Dr NW +1 403-220-7954 ‎ · ucalgary.ca, Calgary, AB, CA*** BEFORE YOU RSVP, READ THE TICKETS / BILLING INFO. ***
The ISU Speed Skating World Cup returns to Calgary! This World Cup Competition will serve as one of the qualifying events for quota places at the ISU European Speed Skating Championships 2026 and XXV Olympic Winter Games Milano-Cortina 2026.
Racing in groups of four to eight contestants, skaters compete on an indoor track the size of a hockey rink with a lap length of 111 metres (364 feet). The top two finishers from each heat advance to the next round. Passing strategies and pacing are important components of the sport. Contact often occurs as skaters jockey for position. Because of the sharp turns at high speeds, a special speed skate, one with a taller blade and higher boot, is used to provide extra support for the skater. Falls are common in short-track racing, and skaters wear protective pads on their elbows and knees, as well as helmets and gloves. The walls of the track are also padded.
Join us for an EXHILARATING afternoon of competitive speed skating where we'll watch the Division A Medal Events beginning at 12:30p. If you think speed skaters look fast on television, just wait until you see them in person!! INSANE!!
(Tickets are valid for admission to the Division B races from 10:05a - 11:38a and 4:00p - 6:18p..... if anyone wants to head there early and/or stick around to watch the Division B races, they may certainly do so!)
