Alberta Ballet's "Swan Lake"
*** Before you RSVP, first read the TICKETS/BILLING info. ***
Experience the classic ballet, "Swan Lake".... a story of love, deception, and destiny -- brought vividly to life on stage by Alberta Ballet.
Please join me for a classy evening at the Ballet! Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake tells the tragic love story between Prince Siegfried and Princess Odette, who is cursed by an evil sorcerer, Von Rothbart, to be a swan by day (White Swan/Swan Queen) and a human by night. The spell can only be broken by a vow of true love, but leads to heartbreak at a royal ball when Siegfried is tricked into pledging himself to Von Rothbart's daughter, Odile (Black Swan), resulting in a less than desirable conclusion...
Tchaikovsky’s sweeping score is performed live by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, surrounding audiences with the full power of the orchestra and amplifying the emotional impact of the choreography. Alberta Ballet’s artistry makes this Swan Lake an unmissable event.
BTW: If you haven't seen the 2010 psychological thriller, Black Swan starring Natalie Portman, I highly recommend it as it was nominated for 5 Academy Awards that year, including Best Picture. Natalie ended up marrying "Prince Siegfried" in real life, and took home the Oscar for Best Actress).

John Wort Hannam at the Nickelodeon Music Club

I also received an email that they will be filming Leanne Lightfoot (opening act) for a documentary. Once a month, they present concerts at the Crescent Heights Community Association.
February 21 features John Wort Hannam with opening act Leanne Lightfoot
The Nick is thrilled to welcome back long-time favourite, John Wort Hannam. John has been on his folk and roots-fueled troubadour journey for two decades, spinning songwriting gold from the chaff of the lives he has encountered and those within his fertile imagination. Twenty-two years in, he shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, he’s gaining both momentum and a wider audience, winning two 2023 Canadian Folk Music Awards for Solo Artist of the Year and Contemporary Album of the Year. Add to this a Juno Award nomination, a Kerrville New Folk Win, a previous Canadian Folk Music Award, and it’s easy to see why audiences and critics alike hear something special in his narrative and lyrically driven songs. Effortlessly mixing rich and clear timbered vocals with lyrics that tug at the heart, his sound is both unique and familiar.
Ten years after releasing her Redtail Flyer album, Leanne has released Still Knowing, bringing her smoke laced vocals, and timeless writing to the forefront. Chanelled through her raw and honest vocals, Leanne Lightfoot’s songwriting reveals the joys and sorrows of life-lessons, and the emotions she knows intimately: matters of the heart, the call of land, and the bonds that bind one to another. Adeptly and gently she leads listeners on emotional journeys with her song-stories, some from her life, some from other’s lives. With upbeat banter and back-story, upright bass player, Jamie Newsom, and guitarist, Jim McLennan, add depth and texture to the nuanced collection of songs, where past and present intertwine and where heartache and hope coexist long after the music fades.
There are drinks (card and cash payment) and snacks (cash only) available for purchase. Merch from the artists is usually available for purchase (payment type varies, depending on the artist).
