🎨 Art, Views & Pizza: Join us at the 39th Clothesline Art Market
Details
Looking for a perfect weekend escape? We’re heading to the Leighton Art Centre for their iconic Clothesline Art Market. This is one of Alberta’s most beloved outdoor art traditions, held on a stunning 80-acre property in the foothills southwest of the city.
What is the Clothesline Art Market?
Unlike a typical indoor gallery, this market is a celebration of local creativity in a natural setting. Dozens of local artists set up their original works outdoors on clotheslines and stands surrounding the historic Leighton heritage home. You can browse juror-selected paintings, crafts, and fine art while soaking in 360-degree views of the mountains. It’s a festival-style vibe with live music, food trucks, and a new land-based writing installation called Words To Wander To installed along the trails.

📍 Meeting Spot & Carpool Logistics
To keep things organized and transit-friendly, we will meet at the Westbrook Mall Parking Lot (please meet on the West side near 37th St and the LRT station). This lot offers free weekend parking and is directly on the Blue Line. I’ll be driving a navy blue Toyota Matrix hatchback with a roof rack.
Meet Time:* 9:15 AM
Departure:* 9:30 AM sharp
Event Duration: We’ll spend 2.5 hours* at the market (10:00 AM – 12:30 PM), returning to the city by early afternoon.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: PARKING & CARPOOLS
Parking at the Leighton Art Centre is very limited. The lot fills up quickly on opening weekend. Carpooling is highly recommended to ensure everyone has a spot and to make the trip more social!
If you are not driving: You must post a comment below to request a ride and confirm those arrangements with a driver before the day of the event. As the organizer, I provide the meeting point, but I will not be coordinating individual rides for you. Please ensure you have a confirmed seat before arriving at the meeting spot!
If you are hitching a ride, a contribution of $5–$10 to your driver for gas and wear and tear is a standard and appreciated gesture!
The Game Plan:
Art & Nature:* Wander the property to see works from 60+ local artists.
Good Eats: Grab an early lunch from Amedeo’s Pizza on Wheels, Café Croissant, or Lic’s Ice Cream*.
Historic Tour:* Take a walkthrough of the beautiful heritage home and gallery.
Key Details:
Admission: By donation* (please bring a donation to support the Centre’s programs).
Footwear:* Wear comfortable walking shoes; we'll be on grass, gravel, and trails.
Note: The property is a smoke-free and dog-free* zone (no pets allowed on site).
Post a comment below if you are driving (and how many seats you have) or if you are looking for a lift! 🌲✨
