Ever heard the motto 'fake it 'til you make it'? Behavioral ecologist Jonathan Pruitt sure did. In 2018, Pruitt was at the top of the field, granted a prestigious Canada 150 Chair at McMaster. Two years later, Pruitt had been exposed as the biggest scientific fraud in ecological history. I'll tell you how I and others discovered the fraud, and ask if the case holds any lessons for ensuring that scientific research remains trustworthy. It's the kind of wild story that goes best with a beer (or several).

I'll be talking for about 40 minutes, then we can all hang out. My talk is part of a series of science and history talks at Good Cheer Brewing on Tuesday evenings. It's not on their events calendar yet but it will be soon (https://www.goodcheer.beer/event-tickets). It's free, you don't actually have to buy a ticket. But a $10 ticket, which will be available at that link soon, guarantees you a seat and includes a beer. It probably won't sell out, but you never know! Whether you're a science nerd or not, it should be pretty entertaining.

If you haven't been there yet, Good Cheer is a really cool and unique place. They brew a bunch of historical beer recipes (one more than a thousand years old!). And they have a bunch of Belgian beers on tap that you don't often seen on tap around here. They also have food, so you can have dinner if you want.
