What we’re about
It is with mixed feelings that we announce that For the Love of Trees will no longer be hosting a monthly Swish. We want to Thank everyone who made the Swishes possible. We could not possibly have accomplished what we did over the last year without your support. Although we still believe “Together we can make a difference” and would encourage people to reduce, reuse and recycle their clothing for the health of our planet the limited turn out despite 250 + on our mailing list does not make it possible to deliver a fair trade swap at a monthly event. So the time has come to let go, and we are letting go.
In our dedication to unburdening the planet of clothing waste we have been creating bags from the unloved clothing left behind at our Swishes. Over the next few months we will be exploring different ways to bring these bags to life . . . so stay tuned and For the Love of Trees Simplify!
To Swish: to wrestle clothes from a friend. We all bring clean, gently used, wearable clothes and accessories that are lurking unloved in the back of our closets and exchange items with other like minded people. Are you someone who loves adding to your wardrobe, saving money, all while helping the environment? If you are, then a Swish is just the thing you need to combine all three! Our Goal is to make swapping the new shopping! Come Swish your way to a new greener, earth friendly wardrobe. And help us For The Love of Trees build a community of Swishers. Building community while honouring Mother Earth is important to us . We hold regular Swish events throughout the year where you can drop off clean, gently used clothes and accessories that you no longer wear. You can then exchange them for "new to you" quality items from other like minded Swishers. It is reported that women use only 20 per cent of their wardrobe 80 per cent of the time! So it makes sense to un-clutter your closet and Swish to create a greener wardrobe. Join us in promoting reusing clothes, especially fabulous clothes, shoes and accessories! The more people that attend, the more stuff you’ll get! It is no longer enough to reduce, reuse, and recycle...we must RE-THINK how and what we consume! Join us in inspiring Calgary to live more sustainably by Swishing more than you shop. " Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” –Anthropologist Margaret Mead
