Calgary Value Investing Meetup Group

This is an informal group of people interested in value investing. If you have interest in value investing we can discuss ideas, books, articles, and white (research) papers. Let’s meet over coffee or drinks and see where everyone’s investment interests are. Remaining on premises where discussions are held or participating online on meetup.com webpages constitutes agreement to the terms of the Liability Waiver below.

Some of the topics of interest may be:
- Value super investors and what they teach (Graham, Buffet, Einhorn, Greenblatt, Cliff Asness, Pobrai etc.)
- Classical value investing approach and its modern alternatives, e.g. quantitative value approaches  
- Special situations and how value investing may apply to them
- Interaction of value and other investment styles, e.g. value and momentum, or value and quality  
- Current market conditions and indicators 

- Where to look for value

LIABILITY WAIVER

WHEREAS the group known as the “Calgary Value Investing Meetup Group” (the “Group”) has been created so that participants can take part in informal discussions regarding possible investment opportunities.

AND WHEREAS the Group believes that it is to the mutual benefit of the participants that there be an agreement between all the participants that participation in the Group and all Group discussions, be it in person or online on meetup.com webpages, be free and open and that the participants can offer views without fear of liability or legal consequences arising from discussions offered to other participants;

AND WHEREAS in order to accomplish the above, the Group has agreed that it be a requirement of participation that all participants agree to this Liability Waiver prior to participating in the Group’s activities;

Now therefore in consideration of being allowed to participate in the activities of the Group I agree and understand that I am not bound nor recommended to follow any recommendation, advice or other communication made by any participant of the Group or any organizer of the Group whether in Group discussions, be it in person or online on meetup.com webpages, or otherwise. I agree that if I take any actions related to any information provided or statements made in any Group discussions, or otherwise, it is entirely as the result of a decision which I have personally made at my own and sole risk and I am not relying on such information or statements when making my decision and I will not hold the Group, any other participant of the Group or any organizer of the Group responsible for such decision under any circumstances.

I understand that neither the Group nor any organizer or other participant of the Group guarantees the accuracy or veracity of any statements made in any Group discussions, or otherwise. Furthermore, I understand and agree that no participant should rely on any statements made in Group discussions, or otherwise. All such content may contain errors or omissions. 

I understand that the Group organizers and other Group Participants are not acting as my financial advisor or broker, and that they may not be acting in my best interest. I understand that investing involves inherent risk, and that it is strongly recommended that any investment decisions be discussed with a financial advisor or broker prior to completing any such investment decision. I understand that all statements made by any organizer or other participant of the Group are not meant to be a solicitation or recommendation to buy, sell, or hold investments.

I agree to waive any and all claims that I have or may in the future have against the Group, its participants and organizers. I agree to release and discharge the Group, its participants and organizers from any and all liability for any loss, damage or expense that I may suffer as a result of my participation in the Group, due to any cause whatsoever. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Group, its participants and organizers for any and all actions, damages, claims, expenses and any other liability of any kind whatsoever, whether in law or equity, and including any loss or damage to property, resulting from my participation in the Group.

This Liability Waiver shall be governed by and interpreted solely in accordance with the laws of Alberta and any litigation shall be within the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of Alberta. Signing this Liability Waiver physically, electronically or by replying “I understand and agree” to a message, electronic mail or elsewhere, or attending any activity of the Group, or accessing the meetup.com webpages of the Group, constitutes consent to all terms of this Liability Waiver, and represents an acknowledgement that any previous interactions will be subject to the rules as are agreed to in this Liability Waiver.

Any participant who does not agree to the terms of the Liability Waiver should not participate in any discussions. By remaining on premises where discussions are held or participating online on meetup.com webpages each participant is agreeing to the terms of this Liability Waiver.
