NOTE: *Attendance* - I may add or remove any attendee at my own discretion. Preference will be given to individuals with a good attendance record.
NOTE: *Keep Microspikes Handy* - Due to recent snowfall, we may encounter patches of snow/ice on the ridge.
NOTE: Difficulty - Hard - This trail is quite straightforward and the elevation gain is relatively gradual all the way. There are a few steeper sections and the total elevation gain is a decent amount - you should be comfortable with occasional steep slopes.
NOTE: Weather and Hike Day - All hike days are subject to change depending on the weather and avalanche conditions.
After the major snow/rain system last weekend, and continuing rain this week, I am expecting muddy conditions lower down and snow higher up. Let's go and check out the lower Lineham Ridge in south Kananaskis and enjoy the snowy views!
Trail Details
Distance: Approx. 13.5 km (Out and Back)
Elevation gain: Approx. 900 meters
Time: Approx. 6 hours (including breaks)
Trail Description: From the parking lot, we will initially start walking next to Lineham Creek. The trail will trend slightly above the creek to avoid the washed out sections from the 2013 floods. Past the creek section, we will turn climber's left and begin ascending the lower hill on the ridge. We will continue this gradual ascent for about 2km to the treeline.
Above the treeline, the views will open up in every direction. We will continue walking along the grassy slopes. There will be some small ups and down along the way, including a bump with some scree/talus to cross. There will be another small loss in elevation before our final push to the summit. We will enjoy the views from the summit and return the same way to the parking lot. We will take as many breaks as needed along the way.
RECOMMENDED GEAR & SUPPLIES
- microspikes (in case we run into patches of snow/ice)
- hiking poles - useful on steep slopes while ascending and descending
- hat/cap
- sunscreen
- light gloves - cooler temperatures this June, especially in the morning
- ankle gaiters - expecting the grass and ground to be wet - useful to keep your socks dry
· Clothing - Early Summer - Dressing in layers is key so you can adjust to avoid overheating. Lighter wool/polyester clothing is still recommended along with a light jacket/windbreaker. Cotton clothing and jeans are not good.
· personal first aid kit
· snacks/lunch
. water (2 litres recommended. Lineham Creek is a source of water but not available until we get back down the ridge. Can give refills with my water filter.)
