Headwall Lakes - The Fortress - Chester Lake

Details

It was a challenging trail with spectacular views from start to finish. I thought the final area to the summit would be more scramble, but not much. It was a steep scree that went on forever. l brought my helmet but did not need it. The return trail is a very tough dry scree. The steep, loose scree slope down the Chester Lake side is especially hard and I was caught off guard and fell (needed poles). Long sleeves, long pants, and gaiters are recommended for descending this scree. The trail after this also continues rocky slope to Chester Lake and is difficult.
Mandatory Equipment: Solid hiking boots, 3 liters of water, poles, Helmet
Suggested Equipment: Sunscreen, sunglasses, short gators
Weather: 13-22 celcius, Wind 6-gusting 12 kph some cloud/rain
