Powderface Ridge North Outlier (Snowshoeing in upper section)
Details
Trail Name: Powderface Creek and Ridge Trail (Click link to see the AllTrails Route)
Difficulty: Hard
Trailhead: Powderface Creek Trail Parking Lot
Trailhead Meetup Time: Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 9:00am
NOTE: Attendance - I may add or remove any attendee at my own discretion. Preference will be given to people with a good attendance record.
NOTE: Snowshoes Important - I'm expecting deeper snow on the upper ridge above the Three Trail Pass - snowshoes will be important to make progress.
NOTE: Hike Difficulty - This is a hard hike. The trail is straightforward and the elevation gain is relatively gradual, but we are covering a long distance. Snowshoeing also takes more energy than walking.
NOTE: Weather and Hike Day - All hike days are subject to change depending on the weather. A weather update will be provided closer to the hike day (usually two days before the hike day).
Powderface Ridge is an enjoyable outing in the winter for the gradual ascent trail. Let's go and enjoy some hiking and snowshoeing on the ridge!
Trail Details
Distance: Approx. 18km (Out-and-back)
Elevation gain: Approx. 750 meters
Time: Approx. 5.5 hours.
Trail Description: From the winter gates, we will walk to the Powderface Creek trailhead. The first 4.5 kilometres of the trail is a gradual walk along Powderface Creek, with some ups and downs. We will then reach a junction to ascend up to the "Three Trail Pass". Over the next 1.5km, we will have a steeper ascent up to the pass.
From the pass, another set of switchbacks will take us to a col below the main ridge. We will turn climber's right from the col and make our way to the North outlier summit. We will enjoy the summit views and retrace our steps back to the parking lot. We will take as many breaks as needed along the way.
