NOTE: Attendance - A waitlist has been created. I will add attendees at my own discretion. Your answer to the hike question will be taken into account. I am aiming for a total of 6 attendees.
NOTE: Keep Microspikes Handy - In case of lingering snowy/icy patches on the summit ridge.
NOTE: Difficulty - This is a very-hard hike. A good level of fitness is recommended given the length and the fact that most of the hike is spent navigating rocky Jura Creek. Steep scree ascent to gain the ridge of Morrowmount. This hike is more a test of patience and endurance than anything technical.
NOTE: Weather and Hike Day - All hike days are subject to being changed depending on the weather.
Morrowmount is a prominent fang-shaped highpoint along a ridge extending northwest from Goat Mountain. We got a glimpse of this objective early this year from Exshaw Ridge. Let's venture deep into Jura Creek to ascend this rarely visited summit!
Weather: To be updated as we get closer to the hike day.
Trail Details
Distance: Approx. 22 km (Out-and-back)
Elevation gain: Approx. 1300 meters
Time: Approx. 9 hours (including breaks)
Trail Description: From the Jura Creek Trailhead, we will head towards the canyon. We will bypass the initial canyon section by using the side trail in the forest on climber's left. We will then have our usual 4km ascent up Jura Creek, past the False Fault Pools to the Loder Peak drainage intersection.
From the intersection, we will travel another 3km up the creek past another mini canyon to the base of Morrowmount. From the base, we will start our steep ascent up loose scree to gain the ridge - this will probably be the most taxing part of the hike. Once on the ridge, we will have a straightforward path to the summit, with some slabs to navigate immediately below the summit. We will check out both the main summit and the north summit, and backtrack our steps to Jura Creek. We will then begin the long walk back to the parking lot.
