We are meeting on Thursday November 7, 2019, at the Center for Health Informatics (5th floor, TRW Building, 3280 Hospital Dr NW, Calgary)! The door opens at 5:30 pm with pizza and soda for networking.

The meeting starts with the talk by Dr. Matthias Kanta. This presentation will begin with a short introduction into functional programming concepts, how they differ from imperial programming and why they are important. This will be followed by a discussion of language features in R that facilitate the use of functional techniques as well as some deficiencies.

Examples will be given and seasoned R users may realize that they have used some of these techniques all the time. Finally, functional alternatives to using R will be mentioned.

This event is supported by the Centre for Health Informatics (https://cumming.ucalgary.ca/centres/centre-health-informatics).
