About us
The California Native Plant Society is a statewide non-profit organization of amateurs and professionals. Our goals are to increase understanding of California’s native flora and to preserve this rich natural heritage for future generations. The Yerba Buena Chapter encompasses San Francisco and northern San Mateo Counties and is named for the tiny fragrant mint Satureja douglasii found in this area.
Chapter Activities are as diverse as our membership and range from conservation and habitat restoration to native plant gardening, hiking and photography.

Your help is much needed at the beautiful Balboa Dunes!
Balboa Street & Great Highway, San Francisco, CA, USThis is our second March work party to defend this gorgeous restored dune area agains the danger of being overrun with ripgut brome (an invasive annual grass)! This brome is a great candidate for weeding since it is easily identified and easy to pull- THERE"S JUST SO DARN MUCH OF IT that it takes a lot of hands to get rid of it! We need a big crew to help kick this noxious weed in the pants before it can drop its seed.
Meet at the northernmost boardwalk entrance, closest to the Cliff House.Gloves, tools and snacks will be provided.
Please wear close-toed shoes and appropriate clothing for physical work. Layers are best while working near the ocean. It can get very windy and cold out there. Though beautiful!
