ANNOUNCEMENT!
This field trip has been postponed until Saturday July 19 as a result of predicted high temperatures on the July 12. We will also start a little earlier than originally planned.Meet at Chico Park & Ride at 8:00 or at Bucks Lake Information Kiosk/Fire Station at 9:30 am.
Please join the Mount Lassen Chapter of the California Native Plant Society for a pleasant 4 mile loop hike at Bucks Lake in the Plumas National Forest. The Bucks Creek Loop takes hikers through a variety of zones from dry forest to mountain desert to marsh/wetland marked by groves of aspen and mountain alder. Each zone features its own plant life. Spectacular flowers seen on the hike include tiger lily, monkshood, California columbine, and rein orchid.
After a break for lunch, those with additional energy may choose to walk the Mill Creek Trail and if so inclined take a dip in the lake. Both trails share the same parking area.
Please wear comfortable hiking shoes (it can be marshy in spots), a sun hat and sunscreen and bring lunch, a snack and plenty of water. Sitting at 5,200 feet, the Bucks Lake Basin is typically 20 degrees cooler than the valley. This hike takes us through mostly shady forest, good for a summer day.
