The Nature Conservancy has a waiver as well, so make sure to sign theirs as well!
Come explore the botanical riches of Vina Plains, the
Nature Conservancy Preserve located north of Chico.
Vina Plains contains vernal pools, a rare and threatened
form of wetland unique to California’s Central Valley.
The vernal pools host many rare and unique plants
as well as fairy shrimp and other invertebrates that
have adapted in interesting ways to live in this unique
environment. The grasslands are noted for wildflowers
and songbirds.
Our trip will be hosted by Mount Lassen
Chapter member and docent David Popp. We will be
carpooling from the Chico Park and Ride on Highway
99 at 8:30 a.m. Or, if you’d like to drive yourself, meet
outside the gates at 9 a.m. at the Vina Plains Preserve,
north on Hwy 99.
Be sure to bring sturdy shoes, and water. There won’t be
shade here, so come prepared!
