Moss and Bryophyte Hike at the Forks of Butte

Meet at Chico Park & Ride (west end nearest the Hwy 99
Freeway) to carpool at 9:00 a.m., or at the Doe Mills Road trailhead at 10:00 a.m. Forks of Butte Recreational Area
Come join us for a moss walk led by John McLaughlin at Forks of Butte Recreation Area. We will be doing the north end of the Butte Creek Trail, about 1.5 mile out-and-back trail starting at 2300 feet following Butte Creek. Along the way we will see many kinds of mosses and liverworts led by someone very knowledgeable about the subject. Come join us and learn all about these under-appreciated organisms in a unique environment!
Wear sturdy shoes and bring lunch, water and snacks. Bring a hand lens if you have it. The trailhead is at the end of an unpaved road. If you have a car that you feel comfortable driving on rough, unpaved roads, please bring it for carpooling purposes.
