Celebrate the New Year’s with us by hiking up the North Rim Trail to the Maidu Caves. We might see a few flowers produced by late fall rains, and we will see stunning vistas of the park. Come and see more than 25 bedrock stone mortars made by years and years of indigenous people living in the area. We may see a small waterfall over the entrance (if it has been raining), as well as views of the park. The hike will start out in the flat grassy section with large blue oaks and will go down the rocky slope of the north rim, and then will follow the rim of the canyon for vistas of the park and the valley. The trail will be rocky and will have some relatively steep sections up the rim of the canyon.
We may decide whether to walk directly to the Maidu Overhang for a less strenuous and safer route than the rim trail.
Bring sunscreen, wear sturdy shoes and bring lunch, water and snacks. Wear warm clothes. Rain cancels.
