Join BCCER naturalist and Outdoor Ed Coordinator Jon Aull for a special hike through the California State University, Chico’s Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve (BCCER) to enjoy the post-Park Fire flowers and learn their natural history. Just upstream from Bidwell Park, the BCCER contains 7,835 acres of diverse canyon and ridge habitats, including 4.5 miles of Big Chico Creek, and is home to many species of plants and animals. The tapestries of flowers change daily, and we’ll see how the landscape is regrowing after the Park Fire. Geophytes (bulb plants like irises and brodiaeas) have been especially prolific.
The hike will be a slow-paced ~ 3 miles on moderate trails with some elevation gain.

Wear/Bring: Everyone should wear sturdy hiking shoes with lugged soles, long-pants, bring a snack and water, and consider mosquito repellent, a hat, and sunscreen. Poison oak and ticks are common on the BCCER. A magnifier will be helpful. Participants are limited and registration is required.
MEETING PLACE: The Chico Park & Ride off Highway 32 is located at 895 Fir Street, Chico, CA 95928, near the intersection of Fir Street and SR-32. This Caltrans-managed lot offers 141 free parking spots for ridesharing and commuters====it is the parking lot next to the freeway.
