About us

Cambridge Confident Communicators is a local club of Toastmasters International, a global organisation that helps people develop communication, public speaking and leadership skills through regular practice and supportive feedback. We have been meeting in the heart of Cambridge since 2009 and welcome people from a wide range of professions, cultures and levels of speaking experience.

We meet every other Thursday at 7.30 pm. Every meeting is hybrid, so you can join us in person at Friends Meeting House, 12 Jesus Lane, Cambridge, or online via Zoom.

What happens at a meeting?

Toastmasters meetings are practical, learn-by-doing workshops. A typical meeting includes:

  • Prepared speeches from members
  • Short impromptu speaking activities
  • Constructive evaluations and feedback
  • Opportunities to chair parts of the meeting and practise leadership skills

There is no instructor. Members learn by speaking, listening, observing and supporting one another. Everyone progresses at their own pace.

New to public speaking?

You do not need any previous experience, and there is no pressure to speak during your first visit. You are welcome to observe the meeting or try an impromptu speaking activity if you feel comfortable.
Our members come from many different backgrounds, including education, science, technology and business. Some join to improve presentations at work, some want to become more confident speaking spontaneously, and others enjoy practising communication in a supportive community.

What does membership include?

Members gain access to Pathways, Toastmasters’ structured learning programme. Through practical projects, prepared speeches, individual feedback and meeting roles, members gradually build their communication and leadership skills.
You can learn to become a more engaging and dynamic speaker through body language, vocal variety, storytelling, humour and confident use of the speaking space. You can also develop leadership skills by chairing meetings, supporting other members and taking on club responsibilities.
Visiting is free and there is no obligation to become a member.
Join us in Cambridge or online and experience a Toastmasters meeting for yourself.
