Billions are being spent to make AI smarter, with new capabilities emerging every month. How long do we want this to continue? Do we want AI to become smarter than us?
It is increasingly likely that it will and we think that AI smarter than humans will be a disaster for humanity. It presents a genuine risk of extinction.
As the Cambridge Chapter of ControlAI, we meet regularly to discuss the dangers that arise with superintelligence, and what regular citizens can do about it. Our meetings typically include discussions about AI risk, or brainstorming what we can do to address this risk.
