What we’re about

Peer reading group for existentially oriented therapists who are relatively new to the field (~ < 5 years) and looking to expand their understanding of this theoretical framework. Group will aim to meet once a month to conduct meetings centered around readings of key philosophical texts in the existential tradition (Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Sartre, etc.) or foundational writers in the discipline of existential psychotherapy (Rollo May, Paul Tillich, Erich Fromm, and others commonly cited by contemporary existential psychotherapists). The hope is that these meetings can be in-person somewhere in the Cambridge/Somerville/Arlington area and can be used to build a community with consistent ongoing membership. Suggested structure for group would involve rotating members of the group beginning each meeting by providing a brief case presentation (10-15 minutes) which highlights specific ideas from the text, followed by a larger group discussion using the presented case and the selected text as an anchor point. Looking forward to exploring this rich philosophical and theoretical framework with others.
