Talk 1. Tibs (https://www.tonyibbs.co.uk/) will give advance viewing of his talk "Fish and Chips and Apache Kafka®"
Handling large numbers of events is an increasing challenge in our cloud
centric world. Traditional messaging solutions don't scale well for this type of problem. As it turns out, there is a good solution available: Apache Kafka® - it
provides all the capabilities we are looking for.
Come and learn the basic concepts and how to use it, by modelling a fish and
chips shop! In this talk, I'm going to look at how one might use Kafka to model the events required to run a fish and chip shop: ordering, food preparation, accounting and so on.
I'll demonstrate handling of multiple producers and consumers, automatic routing of events as new consumers are added, persistence, which allows a new consumer to start consuming events from the past, and more.
After being a programmer for a good few years, I recently changed career to become a Developer Educator at Aiven (https://aiven.io). My favourite programming language is Python, my favourite markup language is reStructuredText, my favourite storage technologies are SQLite, PostgreSQL and Redis, and I've recently become all enthusiastic about Apache Kafka.

Talk 2. Python - the future according to PyCon UK (15-mins): Python was again voted No. 1 Top Programming Language by IEEE Spectrum's (https://spectrum.ieee.org/top-programming-languages-2022) - but what does the future hold for Python?
We'll crunch the numbers on the Trends, Topics, and Speakers at the upcoming PyCon UK - and draw conclusions on what the trends tells us about the expected directions for Python.
Several from CamPUG are going to Cardiff for PyCon UK - the first for many years since Covid. There may still be tickets - so if you want to know more or want to meet up with some friendly faces there - let us know on Tuesday.
