Abstract: This talk explores using Elasticsearch for malware search and analysis, focusing on the integration of machine learning techniques for enhanced attribution. By extracting features from bytecode, we can uncover patterns , or code genes, indicative of certain behaviours and signatures in malware. The talk will demonstrate how these features are indexed and queried using Elasticsearch. Additionally, we will cover the role of machine learning in automating feature extraction and classification. The session offers insights into combining search technologies with machine learning for fun malware analysis!

About the speakers:
Lachlan Korodaj has been working in government for almost 2 years now and started when he got into an apprenticeship program out of college. He has been doing IT and cyber security as a hobby for years now and is part of several online communities such as Vipyr Security, which is responsible for detecting malware on the Python Package index.
