Bad Code (was Python Gone Wrong -- festive season event)

Details
The topic is now A Discussion of Bad Code given there's been zero submissions for lightning talks...
The old event was:
This month we're doing something different to round out 2024. The theme is "Python Gone Wrong -- Lightning Talks".
Unfortunately, bad code can be written in any language and we've likely seen our fair share of strange things . Despite its clean, expressive syntax, even Python isn't immune from bad code. This event isn't for simply messy code or common problems. We want to focus on unearthing rare & exotic Python: bizarre coding, feature abuses & just plain strange things you've encountered.
The format is lightning talks, discussing strange code & your experiences in short, 5-10 minute presentations. Ideally, each presentation will be a few slides covering:
- Background: what was the problem?
- What do you think the dev was attempting to achieve?
- What did they do? What went wrong? (code examples)
- How did you fix it? (if possible)
- What did you learn? What can we learn?
- Q/A session?
If you'd like to volunteer to discuss some code, please:
- Collect code samples
- Anonymise/obfuscate if necessary
- Submit your idea(s) & a brief description by one of the following options:
- comment here
- or contact us by whatever we respond to.
List of ways to contact:
- meetup messaging
- slack https://canberrapug.slack.com
- github https://github.com/canberra-python/
- let us know at https://www.meetup.com/canberra-python-meetup-group/events/304105613/
If we haven't responded, we haven't received it. The best submissions will be selected and the submitter invited to prepare some slides. Please submit your code examples by 23:55 Monday 2/12/2024.
See you there!
