Tidewater Boat House to Jack London Aquatic Center- Rated: L1 EASY

No inflatables, Oru’s, SUP’s. Minimum boat length 10 ft.

This paddle will be from Tidewater Boating Center in Oakland to Jack London Aquatic Center (not Jack London Square), going around Coast Guard Island. This area is urban/industrial, north of the Oakland Airport. Staying in the Estuary will protect us from any strong winds that may crop up. Distance is around 6 miles round trip with a lunch break in the middle. This should be an easy paddle suitable for those with good basic skills. Launching and landing will be from docks. Canoes and recreational kayaks are appropriate.

The dock is easy to launch from but it’s about 50 yards from parking, so bring wheels if you have them. We will paddle north and go around Coast Guard Island. The water is fairly flat in the morning. For those who want a longer paddle, they can paddle further south on the return and explore Arrowhead Marsh.

We will break for lunch at the Jack London Aquatic Center. It has three docks and shaded picnic tables for lunch. Bringing something to share is always nice.

Parking and launch are free and there are toilets in both places.
