What we’re about

Discuss Literary fiction, and occasionally distinguished or relevant films with an emphasis on British, and especially, American, canonical texts. I have lived in both cultures and find that my British friends often miss critical things when reading American texts because they don't consider the difference in culture, history, and how the connatation of words differ, especially when sharing the same annotation in British and American English. Likewise, I am sure that I miss critical things about English texts and would like to learn what insights British readers, informed by their own history and culture, have to offer on American and British Literary Texts. I cannot join a book group in America because of my work hours. I will have to attend most meetings remotely, except during my frequent and extended trips to Canterbury, but am open to a hybrid if someone can work out how to have some members appear in person and some online. I work nearly every day from between 18:00 GMT or 21:00 GMT to between 6-9:30 GMT, meaning I can't join any club in America. Let's see what works best for others the group, but I can generally manage times in the afternoon or early evening.
